Interesting things about Julie McCullough

Julie McCullough is an American actress, model, and comedienne who was born on June 30, 1965, in Honolulu, Hawaii in the US. She is of Irish descent and whose name was inspired by the “Oh Julie” song in the 1950s. Julie attended several schools including Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and Allen in Texas.

McCullough worked for several TV and movie projects. Some of her notable works were Max Headroom, The Golden Girls, Superboy, and The Blob, a 1988 horror film, before starting a role of a nanny, Julie Costello, in 1989’s Growing Pains. The year after, after posting for Playboy magazine’s Playmate of the Month in February 1986, she got fired after eight episodes.

It happened after Kirk Cameron’s call for McCullough’s termination due to Cameron’s religious views. He accused the producers of supporting pornography. Cameron apologized to his TV family a decade later. He admitted that due to his immaturity, his behavior was uncalled for. He, however, did not reconcile with McCullough.

McCullough herself is Catholic. However, this did not stop her from being critical about evangelical TV programs where Cameron was a producer. On her MySpace page, she shared, “He thinks if I read science books that I'm going to hell. [I would] rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints... the sinners are much more fun. And a lot more interesting than some book burner who is still having growing pains. I am at peace with God. Kirk thinks people like me are going to Hell, if I do then at least I'll go well informed and well read.” After her scandal in Growing Pains, McCullough appeared on Beverly Hills, 90210, Jake and the Fatman, Harry and the Hendersons and Drexell's Class.

Not known to most people, Julie McCullough loves comedy and found herself enjoying being on a comedy stage. She has performed at the Hollywood Improv, the Palms Hotel and Casino, and the Laugh Factory. She appeared in E!’s reality show, The Girls Next Door. In October 2005, she appeared in the ninth episode of the first season of "Under the Covers" and in March 2007 in the third season of the second episode of "May the Horse Be With You". She went on to appear on an episode of Scott Baio is 45… and Single. Baio and McCullough dated but broke up. Baio said he was not ready for a commitment but McCullough said it was because of his infidelity.

In November 2001, Julie McCullough married David Sutcliffe but they divorced in December 2003.

McCullough was named as the “Playboy’s unofficial ambassador to the MySpace nation” according to Dave Itzkoff’s June 2006 Playboy magazine article.

For twenty years, McCullough has been a vegetarian and animal rights advocate. She is pro-abortion. She is close friends with The Girls Next Door star, Kendra Wilkinson.
