Interesting things about Candy Samples

Candy Samples was an American dancer, model, and porn star. She was raised in a harsh environment where her mother was abused and said she did not want her daughter to end up having to go through her experience. Samples, as rumored, could be an illegitimate child. It’s believed that Samples originally come from Kansas City and in 1964 have moved to Los Angeles. As a widow and single parent, it was not easy to raise his son merely on Social Security benefits alone. Despite discovering late about sex (more into oral sex) when she was 28, she pursued modeling and was a staple in the San Fernando Valley area.

From her website, Candy Samples mentioned that Marina Del Rey and Dick J approached her to do pin-up modeling. She said she has always been a nudist at heart but felt it was ironic since she hails from the Midwest where views are more conservative. Candy Samples was open to the idea and in about two weeks, dropped a call to Del Rey and Dick J and the rest was history. This was the same time when black and white magazines doing cheesy, unnatural poses were rampant. Samples, over the years, appeared as an exquisite dancer. She made a name for herself in the 1970s by regularly appearing in various men's soft-core magazines such as Gent, Juggs, and Fling, among others. Between the 70s and the 80s, Samples had to share the limelight with other female porn luminaries, such as Marilyn Chambers, Seka, and Kay Parker.

Candy Samples was credited, more often than not, as Mary Gavin. During the early stages of her career, she would sometimes use the names, Vivian Andresen and Candy Mosler. About her last alias, it was rumored that her family owns the Mosler Safe Co. She gave some confirmation to the allegations when, in an interview circa 1978, in the publication, Candy & Uschi Digard (publisher: American Art Enterprises, Inc.), Candy Samples said she received "a fair amount of money" prior to joining the porn industry. If the rumor was true, she wasn't so keen on what came next. From her own words she said, "[I] met a car salesman who I fell madly in love with and he took me for a long ride. ...And I ended up penniless."

During her prime, she appeared in various movies and prints. Most of her work geared toward softcore. She wasn't shy about taking on the hardcore genre either. Despite having large breasts, her body was lean overall. Her measurements were confirmed to be 48DD-24-36.

She has retired from dancing and doing explicit films. A natural brunette, Candy Samples often sported blonde (both yellow and platinum) wigs while being photographed. The same type of wig is also being used by hers for dancing.

Rewards

Apart from her cameo roles in porn movies, she appeared in some campy roles, including Flesh Gordon, a 1974 science fiction spoof. She made an appearance as well in a satirical sexploitation film, Beneath the Valley of the Ultra-Vixens in 1979 by Russ Meyer. During the same time, she did some "sexy wrestling" appearances on films too. This was mainly for Triumph Studios and Ron Dvorkin's Bellstone.

Between 1968 and 1969, Candy made around 5 hardcore movies. She opted to quit later on for fear of being mocked. She also said that at that time, actors made less money appearing in hardcore movies anyway. In the 80s, Candy resurfaced to do hardcore. She has a monthly column entitled "Candy's Column," in Juggs magazine for a couple of years.
